Ride from Kalispell

West Entrance Turn-off

We prefer the thirty mile drive from Essex, Montana and Scalplock Fire Lookout to the west entrance to Glacier National Park and West Glacier, Montana because it “sneaks up” on you.  As US Highway 2 meanders west, it winds and twists along the Middle Fork of the Flathead River.  You almost get a feel of what the early day Glacier Park visitors must of experienced as they rode the train to the Belton Rail Road Station and West Glacier, Montana.
In comparison, the thirty-two mile ride from Kalispell, Montana to West Glacier is full of announcements that you are approaching the west entrance to Glacier National Park.
