Let’s walk through Apgar Village on the west end of McDonald Lake.   We should warn you that the word, “Apgar,” is an ancient Salish-Kootenai word for “no parking.”  If you see an empty parking spot grab it and take in the sights on foot.  Behind us you can see the Apgar Backcountry Permit Center.  There are over 700 miles of trails in Glacier. Get a Backcountry permit and really see the park.

You can make an “on-line” reservation or walk into a Permit Center before you start your hike. If you need more information about backcounty camping in Glacier Park visit this site after you finish the “Glacier National Park Picture Tour.”
