Welcome to the Rexford, Montana Picture Tour
This is a cautionary reminder. Just because you can see a Montana town name on the map, it doesn’t mean there will be a gas station in the town. Rexford, Montana (above) on Lake Koocanusa is a great example. The town (population 105) was moved to it’s present location in 1971 but there is no gas station.
Over half of Montana is “fill ‘er up country.” That means, when the gas gauge says: “half full,” you better fill the gas tank. The extra gas always comes in handy, so you can turn off the main road to follow your whim and still make it back to work Monday morning.
You’ll pass by Rexford, Montana as you hike the 1,200 mile long Pacific Northwest Trail. The trail starts near Chief Mountain in Glacier Park and winds its way west through the Ten Lakes Senic Area (NE of Eureka, Montana) before it crosses Lake Koocanusa.
