Welcome to the Roscoe and Luther Montana Picture Tour

Let’s continue south down Highway 78 to the tiny unincorporated communities of Roscoe and Red Lodge, Montana.  By tiny, we mean very few residents, for instance, the 2010 census population count for Roscoe, Montana was fifteen. Don’t worry, Highway 78 will end in the tourist and ski town of Red Lodge (population 2,125) in about 15 miles. Meanwhile, enjoy the winding road and incredible views of the Beartooth Mountains dotted with historic buildings.

The town of Roscoe is impressive for the Grizzly Bar and the local effort to preserve historical landmarks like the old Roscoe School and the Grey Commercial building (pictured below).  Historic buildings are wonderful but you get hungry exploring Montana. Good news, you are in the right pace.  The Billings Gazette wrote the following about the Grizzly Bar: “An absolute institution, the Grizzly, which makes up most of Roscoe, is about as Montana as a bar and grill gets.”

The snowy February view of the Beartooth Mountains and St. Olaf Church near Luther, Montana (above) really caught our attention. We wanted to know what the country west of Red Lodge, Montana looks like. Below you can see our first July view of the Beartooth Mountains from Highway 78 after you pass the St. Olaf Church. We were amazed and was anxious to continue north on Highway 78 to see more views.  We were not disapointed.

Everyone is equally impressed with the incredible views, so it was no surprise to learn the unincorporated town of Luther was put up for sale in 2014.
