Welcome to the Plains Montana Picture Tour

Located on the north bank of the Clark Fork River and 2,400 feet above sea level, the Plains, Montana area is a perfect place to winter your horses.  “In the early 1800’s various Indian Tribes camped and wintered their horses on the abundant natural grass in the Plains Valley.  The Indians called Plains, “Horse Plains” or “Horse Prairie” and it was at times referred to as “Wild Horse Plains.”   The town’s name was later shortened to “Plains” when the U.S. Postal Service established a presence in 1905.”
