Montana Elk pictures on MontanaPictures.Net  (Page ten of twelve)

11507  The summit we looked at from the "Burn" this morning was a "false summit. "  There are two more "false summits" ahead of us.
We'll skip to the summit picture below...

11507  There's Crow Peak on the left.  Walk to the right of Crow Peak and Elkhorn Peak and you'll walk into Elkhorn, Montana.                                             What else is up on this summit?                                                                                                                                             Casey Peak is off to the right.
Click here for a "wallet size" picture of Crow Peak.                       What are those spots down below?

On a serious note, if you're new to Elk hunting, MAKE SURE YOU STAY OFF THE HIGH RIDGES during hunting season.
Typically, the night before "Opening Day," the group will decide where everyone will hunt.
Avoid being sent up high, even if you have to "fake" a leg injury.
It's not just a coincidence the older experienced hunters all begin to complain about there "bad back" about this time of year.
The older hunters aren't lazy, they just don't want to go home empty handed.

Granted the high ridges are nice...
If the weather is clear, you'll see a sunrise you'll never forget for the rest of your life.
When the first sun beams hit, you can yell: "I'm the king of the World!" Just like Leonardo Di Caprio.
Unfortunately, this won't fill your freezer.

This picture is a perfect example;  We're getting a "nose bleed" from the elevation as we watch the
cow elk sun themselves.   So where are the Bull elk?
We need to turn around and walk down from the high ridge to the mid-point on the mountain
The mid-point on the mountain offers plenty of tree cover for the elk to duck into.
