The Melrose "Cone-shaped" mountain on MontanaPictures.net (Page two of three)

41208 When you drive the six miles from Melrose, Montana to the "cone-shaped" "Butte," it doesn't look like a likely candidate.
Wait until you see the the Northwest side of the Melrose "Butte."
That's McCartney Mountain on the right.  All the land you are looking at is B.L.M. land.  (Please click on the picture for a larger image.)
Unlike Heart Butte, access by vehicle is easy.  You can drive next to and around the Melrose "Butte"  There are two gates to access the "Butte."
      How did we get here?
Seven miles west of Butte, Montana jump on I-15 south.
28 miles later you exit at Melrose, Montana.
If you stand at the Melrose sign and look to the Southeast you'll see the "Butte."
Turn south onto the old highway.
Less than a mile down the road you'll see the sign for "Twin Bridges, Montana."
Turn west on to the "Melrose Bench Road."  The gravel road is in great shape.  The gravel road passes underneath I-15.
You have to roll over two cattle grates during the six mile drive.
41308 Wait for the morning light and take a look at the Northwest side of the Melrose "Butte."                                                                                                                                      Click here for an idea of the largest rock above /\
The south and southwest side of the "butte" is covered with juniper and rock.
To get an idea of scale.                              Click here for an idea of the size of the the rock above.   (The blue jacket is on a five-foot tall tripod.)            The blue jacket is hanging off a six foot "Buried Underground Cable" sign.
