Exploring Medicine Rocks State Park on MontanaPictures.Net  (Page four of six)

Picture panorama of the north view from Medicine Rocks State Park.
70407 Look on the distant northern horizon and you can see the red sedimentary buttes near Baker, Montana.   The red buttes were one of the sources for the red rock used to produce the red stain.
(Please scroll to the right to see the view)
In addition to finding the red, blue and yellow rock painting you can discover pictographs.

You'll also see graffiti from 1888 - Wes Martin

Another 1888 inscription

      Carving from the 1900's 1903 - Voss

      1913 - Wisconsin 1919 - Crying Woman

      1929 - McClusky 1935 - Nedra L.

If you stop by the Carter County Museum in Ekalaka,  you will find a photograph
of Teddy's Roosevelt's signature carved at Medicine Rocks.

Anything else after the 1940's decade is senseless vandalism.  You can't go to nearby Mount Rushmore and carve your initials in the nose
of the seventy-year-old monument of Abraham Lincoln.   Sadly, people of all ages don't hesitate to vandalize Montana's 300-year-old natural monument.
The good news is, the severe vandalism is confined within a hundred yards of the air-conditioned car sitting in the parking lot.
