We just "jumped" over to the west shore
of the Yellowstone River to see "The Heritage & Research Center (HRC)",
located at 200 Old Yellowstone Trail. |
Please don't try this at home. Please use the Highway 89 bridge to
cross over the Yellowstone River. |
Look south from the "HRC" to see the famous archway to Yellowstone
National Park. |
As we walk
towards the arch we'll
pass the
Gardiner High School - "Home of the Bruins."
This view will give you an idea of how far we walked. |

112704 Please note: This is a November 27, 2004
image. The "Cecil Fine Foods" building now vacant. |
If you walk to the left
side of the "Cecil" building you can still see the painted sign
from the 1940's that reads: "W.A. HALL SELLS EVERYTHING GROCERIES" |

Both the basalt archway and the W.A. Hall Company store were completed in the summer of 1903. |
On April 24, 1903 thirty-five hundred people attended the dedication of
the arch by President Theodore Roosevelt.
How big is the arch?
The opening is 25 feet wide and 30 feet high. The towers on either
side of the opening are 52 feet tall. |
