Welcome to The Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness Picture Tour

We fell in love with the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness years ago on a hike to Upper Seymour Lake. In late July, we saw millions of wildflowers on Goat Flats and only two other hikers. The areas was designated as a Primitive Area in 1937, and reclassified as a Wilderness Area in 1964. Thank goodness. The area serves as a water shed to the Big Hole River and is home to thousands of elk.

If you get a chance, try to see Goat Flats in late July, early August to see the wildflowers (see video below). The most difficult part of the entire hike is driving a passenger car up the rutted road to Storm Lake area. Once at the lake it’s only a six mile walk from Storm Lake (pictured below) up to Goat Flats in the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness. Once you reach Storm Pass, you will see an incredible view of the almost 250 square miles (158,516 acres) of wilderness.
